• I like the use of split screens. I like the close ups
• I dont understand the start of the flim or how it connects with the rest. I think it could end better and show more of the plot as i dont really understand.

• I like the editing skills at the very beginnning , it creates a sense of mystery
• I don't really understand the main plot of the film

• It is good how the clips play side by side as it shows how he repeats his days.
• The thriller doesn't really have a plot to it and i can't understand which genre it is.

• I really like the use of close up shots used, and the colours at the beginning changing from dark to light to show their mood. I think its more like a film being quite long and i didn't understand it and what the plot was about.

• The main title at 1:02 is good as it looks like it's on the table.
• The lighting in certain shots was quite dull. (improvement) - lighting during filming or add  brightness in Final Cut.

• The use of a parralell shot around 1:20 and 2:00 was very good camerawork and editing skills.
• The storyline wasn't very clear, didn't understand.

• I liked the close up shots in the kitchen.
• Area of improvement: The story line is left a little ambiguous  

• The editing is very good, i now know how to make an omelet 
• The storyline is a bit unclear 

• It should have more flashbacks of the dream every time he goes back to sleep to show the beginning scene is actually a dream. 
• The use of the continual radio throughout the shot changes gives the scene great continuity 
• The editing where you made him coming home at night time is effective, shows he's had a long day at work.

• I liked the use of the sound of the mug hitting the table to draw attention to the name of the thriller.
• Improvements: The name titles are hard to read because of the font/ effect on it. Maybe change the font to make it easier to read.

• I really like the over lapping fades where we see where we see the girl in the playground. I believe these are used well and are different to conventional fades to black used in traditional fades. 
• One thing that could be improved is the voice overs used. They are a really good idea and are used well to show the connections and the relationships, but in order to show what sort of relationship it is, i would advise delivering them with more emotion. 

• I really like the effects at the beginning and the use of all the different colours overlapping. I also like the use of voice overs however they could be a bit clearer. 
• An improvement could be making the voice overs clearer and the titles more effective.

Feedback on Group U1-29 Thriller Opening Sequence

I think that the opening sequence at the start where you see the character on there own masked gives a dramatic mood from the very beginning as you are in the unknown to whats happening and what will happen The main effect to create this is the emphasis on the dark lighting. Also the camerawork was creative with the use of close ups to show emotions and actions to help the view have more of an understanding and to piece together the story giving a gradual understanding to the thriller keeping the viewer 'hooked'.

The sound used was also very effective. For example the heavy breathing at the start of the opening sequence gave off the mood of fear that the character was feeling. On the other hand some of the panning while the two characters are playing football seems to be handheld which coursed camerashake which was a distraction away from the story.

Altogether the opening sequence was every effecting making the viewer want to carry on watching as the story was slowly revealed giving the viewer a part piece the story together. Also the sequence fitted well in together giving a good flow to the thriller.

The poster for our film, i have used elements from the film such as; the daughter, her camera, and the villains

I have made the pictures only outlines/ shadows to enhance the unknown element to our thriller

For part of the poster i have used footsteps, this isn't an image, it's a brush package which i found and was perfect for the poster.





 Making the film poster credits i used a font called Steel Tongs which was specifically for writing film credits.

Sounds

The first 20 seconds of this song is the type of sound we would like to recreate as it builds up live recorded loops to create a layers rhythmical sound. This would fit in nicely with the over-emphasised sounds of the father getting ready in the morning as we hope to use these sounds within a rhythm.

Playing with noises

This scene involves the father remembering his daughter in a dream. The electronic noises that fade in and out are intended to block out outside noise and give the viewer a spacey and detached feel, as you would feel in a dream. When using these noises I was aiming to create a similar experience to listening to white noise, but without the scratchy, high pitched din that some people are annoyed by. 






















The effects used are spacey effects and stingers.

Making the title text.

To create the effect for our title animation which we were trying to create we had to make files of each letter.
Opening all of the individual .psd files which i had already made. Each letter was size 90 on a 100x100 canvas.

To have the canvas transparent we had to delete the background layer and save it as a png which merges the layers.



I now have to change each of the letters to white.... because i forgot that black doesn't show up on a black background....

Thriller opening title sequence analyses.

I shall be analysing the opening title sequence for the thriller "se7en"

The sound used for the opening of se7en is the same music all the way through. It is a remix of the NIN song closer so the sound is non-diagetic. The music is industrial and quite droney and has been manipulated to flow with the editing. I think that the music used is perfect because the actual song by Nine inch nails is very dark and weird, a lot like the film. I think the film definitely influenced the making of the songs music video, for it in its self is a short thriller which contains some really dark and psychological footage, such as that in se7en. The track finishes with the only lyrics in the sound, this signifies the end of the opening and allows the viewer to recognise that the actual film will start now.


The camera work is made up of mostly close ups and extreme close ups, these are of many objects, however these objects are shown over and over in many different perspectives and views. The camera never shows you the persons face, this creates a sense of unease because we cannot relate to the character and also don’t know if they are good or bad. Throughout the opening the camera is shaking quite violently at some points. This maybe to do with the editing but also could give and insight into the characters “shaky” or maybe psychotic emotional state. (in which we will encounter further on in the film. The shaking of the camera also coincides with the jittery text which helps with the style trying to be port rayed.
Most or nearly all of the camera angles are low angle shots which are used to enhance what is seen in the frame so you are made to remember specific things.


  The editing used for the opening sequence of se7en is very fast and upbeat and goes with the sound track used. Lots of the editing movements used in the opening are synced with beats in the music which I think on a whole makes the editing and music work hand in hand to create a very good feel to the sequence. It is made up of lots of cuts and jump cuts which in a way are trying to disorientate the viewer. Some of the techniques which are used throughout the opening are things such as fades, overlapping and motion. The editing of se7en’s opening sequence is very noticeable and since the film being released the style in which the opening is edited has been taken and used in many other films. The over lapping and flashing of the words and names is one of the most specific traits now for a dark thriller, this can be seen in lots of other films.

The editing used; flashes, overlapping of moving text, moving titles all create a sense of distortion and try and play with the mind of the audience. I think the use of editing in this title scene is some of the best in a psychological thriller due to the effect which it can have on the viewer.

opening credit research

Traffic Warden - Donald Rice




The opening credits for 'Traffic Warden' are creative and unconventional. Although it's not a thriller the laid back style would be appropriate to apply to our dream sequence.



Se7en - Credits Director: Kyle Cooper





Iconic thriller credits. Scratchy, ghosty feel. It could be applied to our sequence and fit in quite well as the daughter is dead. It would add to the feel that something is not right with the images of her playing.


Leon - Luc Besson





The actual credits are basic. I chose this example for the first footage of leon and a gang leader. All shots are close-ups. This gives a claustrophobic feel and the sense the this conversation is very private. The most interesting part is the use of emphasised diagetic sound. We aim to use a similar effect using a series of short close-ups with the diagetic sound of each action the father is doing emphasised.

This is the font we will be using for our thriller opening sequence. We found it on www.dafont.com called senza cuore, we tested it against our thriller title to see if it worked.

Props

Not the exact car, however this is an example of the situation which would be replicated with the car. When the character is going to work.


Keys which will be shown in the opening, as he unlocks and locks his house door.


A tie rack with an assortment of ties, this will show the repetition his days.


Cup of tea/coffee which is used in the morning scene with the paper.

One of the very significant props. Which lots of enthuses will be placed on it. It is the daughters main prop.

Costumes

Our daughter character will not wear this exact costume, the picture below represents an average young girls clothes.



This is the kind of clothing that our main character will be wear, abviously again not the exact costume as below but something similar.
